Welcome to Makings - the home of traditional rag rug making and the rag rugger that we make [above] Makings Handicrafts, established 1990, make a small range of handicraft tools; specialising in tools for making rag rugs. Our Rag Rugger, based on the old 'Brown's Patent Rag Mat Maker' makes it easy to enjoy this old favourite craft.
The business is run by it's founder, John Corey, who designs and makes all the tools as well as demonstrating, and teaching, the craft at some of Britains leading needlecraft exhibitions. John has written a short book about the craft called Shaggy Rag Rugs and how to make them. This site describes most of the different working methods and shows how to do them. We hope you enjoy it.
